Neutrino data are well explained by discrete symmetries as S3, but it is not clear the role of S3 in the quark sector. Indications about it are important in order to build an unified theory of quarks and leptons. In this paper we have studied statistically through a montecarlo approach, a large class of models, selected assuming that the fundamental quarks lagrangian is invariant under permutation symmetry. Differently from lepton sector, S3 symmetry is strongly broken in the quark sector. Up quark mass matrix can be taken left-right symmetric, while experimental data prefer antisymmetric down quark mass matrix configurations. This is in nice agreement with SU(5) unification expectations.
